Welcome to this archive dedicated to the life and wartime service of Ernest “Ernie” Milner.
During the Second World War, Ernie served with No. 2 Commando, one of the British Army’s early commando units. This site has been created to bring together the surviving records, photographs, documents, objects and family memories connected with his service.
About the archive
The archive began with a collection of military records, photographs and other items passed down through the family. As these materials were examined, it became clear that they formed part of a much wider story: not only Ernie’s own experiences, but also those of the men he served alongside and the family members who preserved their memories.
By collecting these items in one place, the aim is to build a clearer and more complete account of Ernie’s wartime history.
